Reckon we've all had those nights feeling little homesick, especially during our first year. It's pretty natural to miss the familiar comforts of home, isn't it? Now imagine being an international student, thousands of miles away from your hometown with different culture and perhaps even different language. Bet that’s whole new level of homesickness! Got to thinking about this after chat had last week with one of my brilliant students from Taiwan. He's doing great academically, but man, the poor guy is really missing his family and friends back home. It broke my heart seeing him so down.
Makes me wonder how many others at UGA might be feeling the same way and how we can help each other through these tough times. After all, that's what being part of the Bulldog family is all about, right? You know, back when was prof over at Mercer University, we'd have potluck dinners every couple of months. Everyone would bring dish from their country or region kind of like culinary world tour right there on campus!
Not only did we have some phenomenal food (Believe me, Southern Literature and Southern food go hand in hand! But it also gave everyone an opportunity to share little slice of home. Maybe something similar could work here too?
