I'm planning to go to Georgia Southern for engineering, but I'm worried about internship opportunities. A student review said: “The career fairs are decent, but you have to be proactive. The big companies don't just come to you” . Another said: “I got my internship through a professor's connection, not the career fair” .
The career center offers resources like resume workshops and mock interviews. A reviewer said: “Use them. I went to a resume workshop and realized my resume was terrible. They fixed it.”
Another tip: “Join a professional organization like ASME or IEEE. They bring in industry speakers and sometimes announce internship opportunities.”
For current students, where did you find your internships? Did you use Handshake (the university's job platform)? Did you cold-email companies? I'm willing to be proactive, but I need to know where to focus my energy. Also, do local companies in Statesboro hire students, or do you have to look in Savannah or Atlanta?
