What do first-year students need to do for the Career Milestones?

I'm trying to stay on track with the Career Planning Milestones and found the requirements for first-year students. In their first year, GC students must "complete a career assessment and review the results through an individual or group planning session with a career advisor" . They also need to "activate their profile in the Career Center's online career management platform, Handshake, to access career events, resources, and internships" .

The university expects all students to complete these milestones, but they "encourage students to go beyond the Milestones to take full advantage of the Career Center's services" .

For sophomores, the focus is on resume review sessions with an introduction to LinkedIn. Juniors do a career planning appointment and mock interview. Seniors have a final check-in .

For other GC students: have you done these? Are they helpful or just checking boxes? ✨

Handshake is legit. All the career fairs, workshops, internships are posted there. You need it activated anyway for finding jobs. So even if the milestone feels like a requirement, it's actually setting you up for later. Also the Focus 2 code is "Thunder" if you need it . First years do it in FYAS usually but you can also just go to the Career Center in Lanier 110 and they'll help.
