I've heard that engineering programs can be competitive and isolating. I'm hoping Georgia Southern has a more collaborative vibe. A student review said: “The engineering students help each other. We have group chats for every class. People share notes.” Another said: “It's not cutthroat. Professors encourage collaboration.”
I found a review from a mechanical engineering student: “We have a makerspace where you can work on personal projects. It's a great place to meet other engineering students.” Another mentioned: “The student orgs are active. I joined the robotics club and learned more there than in some classes.”
On the other hand, one reviewer said: “The workload is heavy. You'll be in the lab late. Make friends with your classmates or you'll burn out.”
For current students, is the engineering program collaborative or competitive? Are professors accessible? Do you feel like you're learning with your peers or competing against them? I'm also curious about the gender balance – I've heard engineering can be male-dominated. Do women in the program feel supported? I want to be in an environment where everyone can succeed.
